DALLAS, March 12, 2010 – The Patriot Cup announced today that Trident will be the Title Sponsor for this year’s event. This marks the second consecutive year Trident has partnered with The Patriot Cup to support The Wounded Warrior Project, honoring men and women of the military injured in the line of duty.

“The Patriot Cup has grown beyond our expectations,” said Tom Fitzsimmons, 2010 Patriot Cup Committee Chair. “With Trident returning as title sponsor this year, we hope to see that growth continue into the future.”

“We’re humbled to be a part of this project to honor the men and women who’ve selflessly defended our Nation. They’re true heroes and we welcome them back to our communities,” said Maurice Herrera, Marketing Director for Trident.

The 2010 Patriot Cup lacrosse tournament features a week-long schedule of high school and collegiate games and exhibitions at various venues in the Dallas area. The event will culminate March 20 at SMU Ford Stadium with a full day of events and a night game featuring national powerhouse teams from the University of Michigan and the University of Oregon.

The event benefits the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that seeks to assist men and women of the armed forces who have been severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world.

On Saturday, March 20, college lacrosse will return to Dallas for the fourth annual Patriot Cup. Returning MCLA National Champion University of Michigan will take the field at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium to face‐off against the University of Oregon. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a non‐profit organization which seeks to assist men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world.

“The Patriot Cup has grown beyond our expectations in the last four years. With the addition of the National Champion Michigan, we now have the Big‐10 facing off against the Pac‐10, which further highlights Dallas as the place to see lacrosse played at its best,”said Tom Fitzsimmons, president of the North Texas Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse and the Patriot Cup committee chair. “No sport has grown faster at the high school and college levels over the last five years.”The 2010 Patriot Cup will showcase some of the nation’ premier collegiate and high school programs. In addition to the Michigan/Oregon game will be three of the nation’ top NCAA Division III teams for a total of three games. Western New England College (Ranked 9th

in 2009) , Nazareth College (#19) and Bowdoin College (#20) will practice and play each other in Dallas, culminating with the WNEC v. Nazareth game at SMU Ford Stadium on Saturday. SMU and Texas A&M University will square off in the nightcap at Ford Stadium for the second consecutive year.

Local high school teams St. Mark’s School of Texas, Episcopal School of Dallas and Highland Park High School will serve as event hosts and also compete at Ford Stadium on March 19‐20. The local schools will take on top‐ranked lacrosse teams Loomis Chaffee(Connecticut) and Mullen (Colorado).
Tickets are available online by clicking here or by emailing patriotcup@gmail.com. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. A 20% group discount is available for groups of 10 or more.

The 2009 Patriot Cup Salutes Captain Christopher Schickling, a Wounded Warrior

Captain Christopher Schickling, a native of San Antonio, graduated from Marine Officer Candidate School in January 2002. After completing OCS, Schickling was selected as an infantry officer and enrolled in Marine Infantry Officer’s Course, Quantico, Virginia. Less than one month after graduating from IOC, Schickling was deployed to Iraq as Platoon Commander. The following year Schickling deployed to Iraq a second time as an infantry platoon commander in 2nd Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st Batallion, 4th Marine Regiment serving during major combat operations in the city of Najaf. In August of 2004, Schickling was leading his platoon through the Wadi al Sallam, the world’s largest graveyard, when a mortar round landed within 10 meters of his position. Schickling suffered shrapnel wounds to his left hand and groin, and lost 50% of the hearing in his left ear. Schickling was evacuated by helicopter to Baghdad, where surgery was performed on his left hand. Offered the chance to return home, Schickling volunteered to rejoin his platoon fighting in Najaf one week later. Schickling went on to deploy to Iraq for a third time the following year. His military decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal with “V” for Valor in Combat and the Marine Combat Action Medal.
